MICHEL PAYSANT

As a multitalented visual artist specialized in research and collaborative projects between art and science, Michel Paysant is particularly interested in cooperative art pratices. For several years, he has been making polymorphic installations that build bridges between art, craftsmanship, science, techniques, new and very high technologies (series of Inventariums, Nusquam…). With a passion for classical and experimental drawing, he develops research projects with scientific teams (DALY / Drawing with the eyes in cognitives sciences, OnLAB in nanotechnologies…), as well as research projects linked to traditional techniques (glass blowing in PTPM / Pensée Technique, Pensée Magique; weaving in Basket Case…). In DALY, he experiments with all the possibilities of an eyetracker: drawing, painting, writing, sculpting, even composing music using eye movement. At the junction of all these territories, the OnLAB (laboratory of new works) research project led to the creation of innovative artworks on nanoscopic (a few millionths of a millimeter) and microscopic scales. Paysant’s open and poetic installations attempt to establish a crossover dialogue between the art world and surrounding worlds through techno-esthetic organization. For the past 30 years, he has been exhibited in museums (Centre Pompidou, Musée du Louvre, Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Centraal Museum d’Utrecht, Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern, MUDAM in Luxembourg, Galleria d’Arte Moderna in Bologna, Museo Nacional de Artes Visuales in Montevideo, Dadu Museum in Beijing, National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Harare, Musée des Arts Décoratifs de Paris…), art centers (Brooklyn Bridge Space/Creative Time in New York, Mercer Union in Toronto, Bétonsalon in Paris, la Synagogue de Delme…), foundations (Fondation Vasarely, David Roberts Arts Foundation…) and galleries.
